Reflecting on a year of adventurous collaborative projects across different art forms, SF Girls Chorus brings together hundreds of choral singers from all levels of the SFGC Chorus School, as well as the award-winning Premier Ensemble, to present an evening of boundary crossing works at Fort Mason’s wildly popular drive-in movie theater Fort Mason FLIX. After a year of isolation, this concert bridges the divide between us and celebrates a hopeful future. Tickets are limited so purchase your ticket today and join us for this celebratory end-of-season extravaganza!
The program will highlight the world premiere of The Line Between by SFGC alum Cava Menzies, commissioned by SFGC and featuring Spring 2021 Virtual Artists-in-Residence Roomful of Teeth. Exploring the search for identity and the fragility that exists at the intersection of cultures, this new work is described by multidisciplinary artist Cava Menzies as “a sonic representation of my deepest longing for identity freedom, self-actualization, and a radical shift in how we own our own story.”
The evening also features an excerpt from The Future is Bright, a new SFGC commissioned work by Chorus School Composer-in-Residence Susie Ibarra, which will receive its official premiere next season; and an excerpt from Music for Hard Times by Danny Clay, a special collaboration between Premier Ensemble, San Francisco Conservatory of Music and The Living Earth Show.
