Premiered in February 2020 at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Rightfully Ours, is a bold new fully-staged choral music and dance co-production featuring 30 dancers from Berkeley Ballet Theater and 40 singers of SFGC’s Premier Ensemble.
Inspired by the Centennial of the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution, and in remembrance of the legacy of those who fought for social and political equity, the work features choreographed choral works by six living composers including world premiere performances of two new works by women composers, Angélica Negrón and Aviya Kopelman, commissioned and co-commissioned with the Israel Institute, respectively.
