About Soloist Intensive
The San Francisco Girls Chorus Soloist Intensive is a program offered to laureates and advanced members of SFGC's Premier Ensemble at the Kanbar Performing Arts Center. Chosen singers will work closely with Director of Voice Studies Justin Montigne to strengthen their performance experience, vocal technique, stage presence, diction and language skills. Through structured coursework focusing on repertoire, organization, and professional skills, Soloists will prepare to pursue vocal performance as independent artists and students in universities and conservatories.
Soloist Intensive singers receive weekly private lessons, and will perform several times throughout the year as needed as a part of SFGC concerts, for SFGC outreach in schools and community organizations, and in special projects for SFGC. There will be three masterclasses with renowned vocal artists, in which the Soloists will perform publicly and receive individual coaching on their technique, stage presence, and other aspects of performance. Soloists will build confidence, poise, communication, and leadership skills, and will be expected to uphold the highest standard of professionalism in all SFGC rehearsals, lessons, performances, and collaborations.
SFGC will provide complimentary tickets for the Soloists to attend professional Bay Area music performances throughout the year. Soloists singers will be required to attend a total of 12 performances, master classes, or other public events per year in addition to regular training sessions. There will be written journaling/criticism required after attending these events, as well as a few written assignments focusing on business skills and preparing for the college application process. Communication for the intensive, written assignments, listening assignments, and discussion will take place via a course on the Google Classroom platform.
