About
San Francisco Girls Chorus’s Community Book Club Series is centered around Tomorrow’s Memories: A Diary by Angeles Monrayo, the true diary of Monrayo, a Filipina girl who immigrated to Hawaii and California in the 1920’s. The diary is the inspiration of SFGC's newly commissioned choral-opera, Tomorrow's Memories: A Little Manila Diary, by Matthew Welch, which will be performed by SFGC's Premier Ensemble at Magic Theater in June 2022.
Leading up to the premiere of Tomorrow’s Memories: A Little Manila Diary, we are hosting a book club session led by a variety of leaders, field experts, and community members about topics relating to Filipino heritage, immigration, music history, and more, as they relate to the diary and the opera. These sessions serve as an opportunity to discuss the intersection of history, culture, and art making.
